Prestigious Dublin Hotel makes energy-conscious Toshiba ac choice

The installation of five Toshiba SHRM heat recovery VRF systems at the new Liffey Valley Clarion Hotel Suites apartment block breaks new ground in Dublin. Energy monitoring devices have been installed within the overall installation by Toshiba's Jubilee Distributor, of twenty-five year's standing, GT Phelan, so that any of the sixty suites can be individually billed for their own energy consumption, if required. Toshiba interactive central control has been provided that can be viewed on an interface in the building or at the hotel's main reception.

Clarion HotelThe fifteen outdoor units combined in groups of three are located on the roof of the five storey block. Seventy-seven ducted indoor units deliver 30 HP per floor, and the system not only provides heating and cooling but can deliver additional energy savings with its heat recovery design.

Derek Phelan explains the system: "the Toshiba controls determine the mode and temperature of any indoor unit and night set-back can be incorporated if required. When the room temperature reaches 10ºC, the Interactive Intelligence system over-rides the card-key and re-programs the controller to provide heat until the room reaches 15ºC. The Toshiba VRF equipment on this project delivers 420 kW of cooling and 470 kW of heating via slim ducted units which are only 210mm high."

Air is ducted through grilles within the apartments. The grilles are of a special design that combines both the supply and return air flows. The development has been finished to a high standard and the individual Toshiba controls have been fitted with anodized aluminium covers to match the décor.
