Novotel Birmingham International Airport

Client Brief: To reduce energy consumption and maximise overall comfort to guests at the hotel

Equipment: Toshiba R410A VRF SHRM & SMMS heat pumps, Simplified room controllers, Interactive Intelligence, Daiseikai R410A, DI Split systems.

A fresh perspective: One of the world’s largest hotel businesses, took the decision to make a substantial investment in a state of the art air conditioning system.

Toshiba Air Conditioning were selected following a review of all leading air conditioning manufactures to provide a cost effective energy efficient solution to the hotel. Novotel chose to air condition the bedrooms and public areas to meet the demanding and varied client needs of having an operating hotel in an airport environment.

Traditionally Novotel ran a forced air system using AHU’s and Chiller systems with battery heating to provide a comfortable environment in the hotel.

The hotel suffered from high energy costs and a pre-requisite of the project was to review that consumption and actively achieve a significant wholesale reduction in energy and CO2 emissions.

As a reduction in energy performance was critical to the hotel’s success, a range of data was required. Energy consumption rates for two months we collated and reviewed against the historical data.
