Can Air Conditioning Heat Your Home Too?

When you think of air conditioning, summer cooling probably comes to mind. But did you know many modern air conditioning systems can heat your home too? Toshiba residential air conditioners are air-to-air heat pumps, providing both heating and cooling from the same system. Toshiba’s residential specification lists heating and cooling performance across its current RAS range.

When can heating with air conditioning be useful?
Air-to-air heating can work particularly well where you want individual temperature control in specific rooms.
This could include:

  • Bedrooms
  • Living rooms
  • Home offices
  • Garden rooms
  • Extensions and renovated spaces

Depending on the property, a single indoor unit could serve one room, while a Toshiba Multi Split system can connect multiple indoor units to one outdoor unit. Toshiba's current residential range includes both single and Multi Split configurations.

Can it heat when it's cold outside?
Yes
. Air-to-air heat pumps are designed to provide heating at outdoor temperatures below those inside your home. The exact operating range varies between models. For example, Toshiba’s SHORAI Curves heating operation down to -20°C outdoor air temperature. We recommend you always check the specification for the particular model and application rather than assuming every system has the same operating limits.

Is it right for my home?
That depends on the property, rooms you want to heat and cool, required capacity and how you plan to use the system. A qualified installer can assess your home and recommend an appropriately sized Toshiba system.
