Choosing Air Conditioning for Shops, Offices and Restaurants

Shop, office or restaurant? Discover what to consider when choosing air conditioning for different light commercial spaces.

Shops, offices and restaurants may all need heating and cooling, but the way each space is used can be very different. Choosing the right air conditioning therefore starts with the application, rather than simply selecting a unit based on capacity.

Shops and retail spaces
Retail environments can have changing occupancy levels, lighting and equipment that influence heating and cooling requirements. The appearance and position of the indoor unit may also be important, particularly in customer-facing areas. Toshiba's Light Commercial range includes cassette, high-wall, ducted, ceiling and floor-standing options, providing flexibility for different types of retail space.

Offices
Office requirements can vary according to occupancy, layout, IT equipment and how different areas are used throughout the working day. Meeting rooms, open-plan offices and reception areas, for example, may have different requirements. Where ceiling voids are available, cassette or ducted units can provide integrated options, while high-wall and ceiling-suspended units can suit other layouts.

Restaurants and cafés
Restaurants combine customer areas with spaces that can have very different internal heat loads. The positioning and selection of air conditioning therefore needs careful consideration alongside factors such as ventilation and kitchen equipment. A qualified professional can assess these requirements and determine the most appropriate system.

Choosing your Toshiba system
Toshiba's current RAV range includes Digital Inverter Classic, Digital Inverter and Super Digital Inverter, alongside multiple indoor-unit configurations. The right combination will depend on the building, required capacity, operating conditions and installation requirements.
