How to Choose the Right Air Conditioning System

Choosing air conditioning? Discover the key things to consider, from room size and system type to indoor units and professional system selection.

Choosing the right air conditioning system starts with understanding your space and how you want to use it. From a single room at home to a larger commercial building, different applications require different solutions.

1. Consider the space
Start by thinking about:

  • The size and layout of the space
  • How many rooms need heating or cooling
  • How the rooms are used
  • Typical occupancy
  • Where indoor and outdoor equipment could be positioned
  • Your preferred type of control

These factors help determine the type and capacity of system required.

2. Understand the main system types
For a home or individual room, a single-split system may be appropriate. If several rooms require individual temperature control, a Multi Split solution can connect multiple indoor units to an outdoor unit. For shops, offices and other smaller business spaces, Toshiba offers Light Commercial RAV systems. Larger multi-zone buildings may require VRF, while larger commercial cooling applications can require solutions such as chillers.

3. Think about the indoor unit
Air conditioning doesn't always mean a wall-mounted unit.
Depending on the application, Toshiba offers options including:

  • High-wall
  • Ceiling cassette
  • Ducted
  • Ceiling suspended
  • Floor-standing

For example, Toshiba's current Light Commercial range includes all of these indoor-unit formats, allowing system design to reflect the layout of the building.

4. Get professional advice
Correct sizing and system design are important. A suitably qualified installer can assess the heating and cooling requirements, building layout and installation conditions before recommending an appropriate Toshiba solution.
