What is R32?
R32, also known as difluoromethane, is a refrigerant used within air conditioning and heat pump systems. Refrigerant plays an important role within the system, transferring heat as part of the heating or cooling process. R32 is an HFC refrigerant and is covered by applicable F-Gas requirements. What does GWP mean?
When reading about refrigerants, you'll often see the abbreviation GWP. GWP stands for Global Warming Potential. It is a metric used to compare the potential climate impact of different greenhouse gases. R32 has a Global Warming Potential value of 675 under the methodology used within the applicable GB F-Gas framework. Is R32 flammable?
R32 has an A2L safety classification, which means it is classed as mildly flammable. For installers and engineers, this means the correct procedures, tools and competence are required when installing or servicing R32 equipment. People carrying out relevant work on equipment containing F-Gases must meet the applicable certification requirements. Where is R32 used?
R32 can be found across different types of air conditioning equipment. Within the Toshiba portfolio, R32 is used across parts of the Residential, Light Commercial and VRF ranges. Current Toshiba product information also includes R32 VRF solutions such as SHRM Advance and MiNi SMMS. The refrigerant used will depend on the particular product and system, so always check the specification for the equipment being considered.

Choosing the right air conditioning system
Refrigerant type is only one consideration when selecting an air conditioning system. The building, required heating and cooling capacity, system design, installation requirements and intended use should all form part of the selection process. A suitably qualified installer can advise on the appropriate Toshiba system for the application.
