Carrier Solutions UK supplied a Toshiba climate control solution for the Bannatyne Health Club & Spa in Wellingborough. The fitness and wellness centre needed a complete HVAC refurbishment to enhance customer comfort and operational efficiency. Ventec Services Ltd, the appointed installation contractor for the refurbishment, selected Toshiba systems for their high efficiency, reliability and tailored climate control capabilities.
Project Scope and Objectives
The eight-week project involved the decommissioning and removal of ageing R407c split systems that had reached the end of their useful lives. These outdated systems were costly for Bannatyne Group to service and maintain, making a modern replacement essential to enhance performance and reduce operating expenses.
As a trusted partner, Carrier Solutions UK worked closely with Ventec to provide a tailored solution that aligned with project goals. Toshiba products were selected by Ventec and procured through one of Carrier’s preferred distributors, Cool Designs Ltd, ensuring a smooth and reliable supply chain throughout the project.
Product Selection
Toshiba’s air conditioning units were chosen for this project due to their design and precise temperature control. Carrier Solutions UK provided a range of R410a Toshiba Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) units, including SMMSu Heat Pump 2-pipe and SHRMe Heat Recovery 3-pipe VRF models, along with Toshiba Digital Inverter R32 single, twin and triple split units for more precise climate control. The installation also replaced outdated DX cooling coils and condensing units in the club’s air handling units.
Key features include inverter-driven compressors, which adjust heating and cooling output according to real-time demand, reducing power consumption during low-usage periods. This adaptability is particularly valuable for the Bannatyne Wellingborough site, where climate control requirements vary greatly between fitness areas, spa zones and administrative offices.
Challenges and Solutions
The facility’s unique layout posed specific climate control challenges, as each area required tailored adjustments. The team installed a Toshiba Black Pear Central Controller, allowing the club General Manager to control different temperature settings across various areas from within the main office. This zoning flexibility ensures members experience consistent comfort on the gym floor, in studios and within spa areas while administrative offices maintain steady air quality.
Careful planning was essential, so Ventec Services Ltd collaborated closely with Bannatyne staff and Carrier Solutions UK to ensure a seamless installation outside opening hours to avoid disrupting Bannatyne’s daily operations.
Results: Environmental and ROI Benefits
Since the installation, Bannatyne Wellingborough has noted improvements in guest comfort throughout all gym zones. The system automatically adjusts output based on occupancy, which cuts unnecessary output, aiding reduction of energy consumption and costs.
